═══🎙 CONCERT ANALYSIS
Night five of the Grateful Dead's May 1980 tour brings us to the Hartford Civic Center on May 10, 1980, the beginning of a three night Civic Center extravaganza. Hartford has a reputation for hosting some fine shows, and tonight is no exception. Although most of the fireworks occur in the second set, that does little to dissuade some individuals from punctuating the show with their own. Hoo-boy.
The set ends with a Deal that takes the energy higher, a portent to the fiery second set to come:
"Might as well gamble with your youth, hope it lands on red, take your winnings, and have a grand old time.
The lucky ones will make it back in time to witness Bob, Jerry, and Brent singing their hearts out, “Don’t you let that deal go down!”
No shirt, no shoes, no dice.
Learn it, know it, live it—end of set."
