═══🎙 CONCERT ANALYSIS

The Grateful Dead appear at the Glens Falls Civic Center in Gens Falls New York on May 8, 1980 as they roll through their first complete spring tour of the eighties. Night four of tour on May 8th, one of the most auspicious dates in Grateful Dead history, and in Upstate New York! Could it be? For us it's the beginning of a three night Civic Center extravaganza. Glens Falls welcomes back Deadheads for the second time in less than a year for some minor league hockey rink action.

From the drop of the puck Jerry and the boys decide it's gloves off as they rip into an Alabama Getaway>Promised Land. Other highlights include the first High Time of the eighties and a delirious LL>Supplication that rolls into a Ramble on Rose prompting your host to dish out these words:

"The music walks us off the ledge into a place called home, where we are met by a recluse on the sofa, a cigarette dangling from a limp, pallid hand. The record player is on repeat. Our consciousness spins the vinyl while outside, meaningless life cycles. The leader of the band made a promise. We remembered the message before, but now we can’t, or won’t, be bothered. Jerry sings a personal “You know this song ain’t never gonna end” not once but twice.

Never gonna end. What’s never gonna end? Music, math, and numbers. Thirty-three and a third revolutions per minute is our number. As long as it continues to spin, our fortress remains impenetrable, unbothered, and alone.

The song is our solace. We hear it, we believe it. We know it to be true."
